The pressure relief valve (Item 1) [Figure 70-70-2] is located on the receiver / drier assembly.
The pressure relief valve is designed to open and release the A/C charge if the pressure reaches 3344 โ 3792 kPa (33,4 โ 37,9 bar) (485 โ 550 psi) [Figure 70-70-3].
This will cause the A/C system to shutdown, saving the compressor.
The pressure relief valve is a secondary protection device in the A/C system, with the Pressure Switch shutting down the system at 2647 kPa (26,5 bar) (384 psi).
NOTE: If a pressure relief valve is found open, check the A/C system for problems. Replace the complete receiver / drier unit.
